Welcome to our website, which we hope you
will find of interest. Preston Historical
Society, founded in 1948, meets on the first
Monday of the month between October and May. Our
meetings, which start at 7.15 pm, are held in
the Central Methodist Church, Lune Street,
Preston. The annual membership subscription is
£10, and admission for visitors to a meeting is
only £2.
The aims and
objectives of the Preston Historical Society are to promote
the study of local history in Preston and Lancashire. The
evening usually consists of an illustrated presentation by a
knowledgeable speaker on various topics about Preston and
its surrounding area. In 2008 the Society celebrated its
Diamond Jubilee and is be one of the oldest Societies
affiliated to Lancashire Local History Federation.
During its existence the Society has always stayed in the
city centre thus allowing easy access for everyone living
both north and south of the River Ribble. Over the years the
Society has held meetings in various venues, including the
Harris Museum & Art Gallery Library. In 2007 we moved to our
present venue, the Central Methodist Church in Lune Street,
in order to accommodate the growing membership of over 120,
and the large number of visitors attending the
talks and other events. |
